For the last 48 years the Holiday Home Tour has been a self-guided tour of homes in East Sacramento, in the area affectionately referred to as the "Fabulous Forties". Due to the current covid restrictions in place in Sacramento we will not be able to have the public visiting private homes to tour the interiors. However, the neighborhood is still a beautiful place to visit during the holidays.
This time of year homes in this area of J Street to Folsom Boulevard, and 38th to 47th Streets there are many houses decorated on the exterior for Christmas. If the weather is agreeable it is a lovely place to take a walk. You can enjoy this historic neighborhood that boasts wide avenues, sweeping green lawns and picturesque, prewar (pre-WWII) homes that have housed many of the city's most prominent residents - Ronald and Nancy Reagan lived here during his term as Governor.
The neighborhood features houses that were custom built in the early decades of the 20th century, when architects were looking to Europe for design inspiration. As a result, the Fabulous Forties is known for its eclectic Revival style architecture which includes; English cottages, Tudor-style homes, Dutch farmhouses, Mediterranean villas, and Craftsman bungalows. No two houses are the same! Click here to view!
Celebrating its 47th year, one of Northern California's most loved holiday home tours returns this year with five elegantly decorated homes in East Sacramento's historic Fabulous Forties neighborhood.
